As more and more people take up vaping either to replace their smoking habits or as a new one, many are finding that e-cigarettes and vaping devices are just as dangerous as tobacco. From emerging teen vaping trends to early signs that vaping can be just as dangerous as cigarettes, vaping is a growing threat that many struggle with. People are looking at various methods to help them shake their addictions – and hypnotherapy is one of the most viable options.
Despite the Australian government’s efforts to make it harder for people to import nicotine vaping products and continued calls to ban vaping altogether, we’re still faced with an epidemic that affects our health, freedoms, and overall comfort. As many as 8.3% of Australians are already hooked on these battery-powered devices, while a staggering one in seven 12 to 17-year-olds have tried an e-cigarette.
For a long time, hypnosis has been recognized as a viable option for those looking to quit smoking cigarettes, and people are turning to hypnotherapy to take on their vaping challenges. We look at how hypnosis can help you with stopping vaping and why Hypnocare is making so much progress in helping people to achieve their quitting goals.
While vaping hasn’t been around long enough for us to truly understand how harmful long-term exposure can be to the body or whether it is more or less addictive than smoking, we already have access to data that is raising many red flags.
Here are some of the stats from the ADF which point to a worsening problem:
• People who vape are up to three times more likely to smoke combustible tobacco than those who haven’t used an e-cigarette before.
• 74% of young adults report curiosity and peer pressure as the main reasons behind picking up the habit.
• While most people start out using nicotine-free e-cigarettes, the majority of them eventually either try the drug out or switch over to nicotine-containing vaping products.
As of October 2021, the Australian government revised the legal status of vaping to state that all nicotine-containing vaping products, including e-cigarette oils, can only be purchased with a doctor’s prescription. This means that only the person possessing a prescription can legally purchase vaping products containing nicotine.
However, regulating the sharing and use of these nicotine products is challenging and can easily be circumvented. Most states have also introduced their own laws regulating the promotion and sale of vaping products, but progress has been slow.
This will inevitably lead to increased stress levels and worry among vapers, triggering anxiety and weakening impulse control. So where can they turn? Hypnotherapy.
While we’re yet to understand how deeply vaping dependency and addiction can affect a person, we can liken it to smoking. Smokers experience cravings and an urge to smoke triggered by countless variables. From stress to boredom, hunger, and anxiety, many smokers feel powerless in their fight to quit.
Hypnotherapy uses the power of suggestion and affirmations to combat these urges. By tapping on the subconscious and working to identify the root causes and triggers that lead to a desire to smoke, hypnotherapists can work with the client to address the issues that lead to cravings and, over time, are able to suppress them to a point where the client can manage and stave them off themselves.
Vaping is fundamentally the same as smoking in how it affects the brain. Impulse control is overridden as the brain craves ‘feel-good’ stimuli and narcotics like nicotine. Once the ability to resist is compromised, vapers then give in and continue to smoke their device.
Hypnotherapy addresses these causes directly.
At Hypnocare, we have treated many clients who have sought help to overcome their smoking habits, giving us much experience and exposure to the techniques and hypnosis methods used most effectively in combatting smoking.
Each client is carefully assessed through a thorough engagement process before beginning their sessions, allowing them to become comfortable with the process and therapist. Then we get to work with the client, addressing the leading causes of their vaping triggers and practising exercises they can do alone.
We’re here to help you break your vaping habit, no matter how long you’ve been struggling to kick it. Give us a call; we can give you the help you need.
